Subject: Elective Assembly 2001, World Championship UWR 2003

Dear Sirs,

I should like to take the opportunity to inform you far in advance about the following situation in the UWR sport/ Commission

  1. Work of the UWR Commission
  2. After the decision taking General Assembly in Lausanne in 1997 there were 7 voting members elected to work in the Commission. As a matter of fact and due to various reasons at present there are only 3 members left doing active work in the Commission. This means too much work for the remaining members and too little power for UWR sport matters in general.

Although the Commission has managed to develop many important procedures and guide lines to support the organisers of UWR sport events there is still much work in front of us e.g. make other federations familiar with this sport and give them adequate support to start with UWR in the near future. Overall promotion must be improved and we have to apply modern techniques in communicating with all persons/federations interested! It is absolutely necessary to work on promotion actions based on INTERNET wherever possible.

It therefore is absolutely mandatory to find capable persons within your federations who are willing to work within the Commission and who are (hopefully) also prepared to apply for being elected as voting members in our Commission in the next decision taking General assembly in Monaco in November 2001.

The Commission, as we see it must have at least 6 active members and also some 3 deputy members in case elected members cannot continue to work in the Commission over the entire election period.

I ask you kindly to identify candidates as early as possible to give them a chance to get familiar with the work to be done in the UWR Commission.

  3. President of the UWR Commission
  4. I also want to give you the advanced information that I will not apply for another (4 years) period for President of the UWR Commission which in 2001 I have been for almost 6 years.

I therefore ask you to also look for capable candidates as soon as possible. If requested I will do my best to support these persons and inform them about the work to be done in future.

  5. W.C. 2003

Furthermore I have to inform you about the fact that up to now we have not received applications to host the W.C. UWR in 2003.

This is a very serious matter since organising a World Championship takes a lot of time. This valuable time not used now might end up in loss of quality later.

We would be very glad to receiving your applications soon, latest in Norway in June 2001 during the next General Meeting where the E.C. 2001 is planned to take place.

I hope that the letter is not addressed to you too early. But I think the described matters need early attention.

It would be very kind if you would let me know soon your proposals.

Sincerely yours
